Community Coordinated Child Care is offering “Red Cross CPR Recertification,” a workshop for child care center staff and family child care providers. Participants will have hands-on skills training to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies for infants, children and adults.

This training provides certification that is accepted by Department of Children and Family Services to meet licensing requirements. 

Registration and 4-C membership are required. A refundable $20 deposit is also required.

Registration is not required for this free four-part series, which will include historical photos, maps and other items related to each book. Tuesday’s session will be a review of the book of Jude. Obadiah will be read March 3.

Heartland Blood Center and Valley West Community Hospital are seeking people who can help save lives by being blood donors.

Call Rhonda Beecher at 630-553-6101 to schedule an appointment. A photo ID is required for donation. Donors should eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of fluids before donating.

Donors should park in the hospital’s north parking lot and, after entering the main entrance, follow signs to the conference room.

Eligible donors will be entered into a drawing to win a four-night Disney stay for four, three days of admission to Disney parks and four round-trip airline tickets. Community Coordinated Child Care is offering “Tiny Talkers … Using Language within the Infant/Toddler Environment,” a workshop for child care center staff and family child care providers.

Tone, manner, environment and the importance of frequent conversation between the child and care provider are essential in promoting a quality program.

Participants in this training will discuss the appropriate use of language within the infant/toddler environment. Registration and 4-C membership are required.

Volunters are being sought to help with the DeKalb Music Boosters Corn Fest Craft Fair.

Annually, the craft fair raises about $10,000, which helps fund programs for DeKalb middle and high school music students, such as sending the DHS Jazz Ensemble to Essentual Ellington, a prestigeous competion in New York.

Anyone who would like to help the students are invited to come to planning meetings throughout the year.

Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s Arthur D. Montzka Young Artists Concerto Competition performance dates back to 1985, when Arthur D. Montzka conducted the orchestra. Musicians younger than 18 who live within a 75-mile radius of DeKalb compete to solo  during this annual concert.

Bread for the World members hope to urge the public to join letter-writing campaigns to urge Congress to pass legislation on reforming U.S. foreign assistance.

The local chapter will devote several meetings this semester to studying how U.S. foreign assistance can be more effective in ending hunger and poverty.

Local BFW meetings begin at noon and include free lunch. “Development Assistance to Reduce Hunger” will be discussed by Dr. Nicholas Noe on March 4.

Community Coordinated Child Care offers “Let’s Give Them Something to Talk About: Parents and Providers Improving Communications,” a free workshop for family child care providers.

4-C membership and registration are required.

Effective communications between care providers, parents and children will be discussed; information on challenges and general policies for discussing sensitive issues and resources will be given.



World Day of Prayer

World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of various races, cultures and traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year.

All women, and men, are encouraged to be enriched by the faith experience of Christians in other countries, and to pray for and with them.

This year’s service has been prepared by the women of Papua New Guinea and will deepen participants’ understanding of how they are one in Christ, as scripture quotes “in Christ there are many members, yet one body.”

This is the annual fundraiser for the Indian Creek School District Parent Club – Community Concern for Children. 

According to a recent news release, CCC usually raises more than $20,000, of which 10 percent is given to each district elementary school and the rest goes to the middle and high schools.

During this fun-filled day for the community, area businesses and residents donate items for the live and silent auctions. Donated items will listed at www.indiancreekschools.org.

The music boosters uses the luncheon at this event as their major fundraiser of the year.  Serving begins at noon.
