Federer still No. 1 WIMBLEDON, England (AP) - Rafael Nadal's epic victory over Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final allowed him to significantly narrow the gap at the top of the ATP rankings. Federer remains at No. 1 for a record 232nd consecutive week, and Nadal stays at No. 2 for a record 155th week in a row. But Federer's lead fell from 1,145 points - 6,900 to 5,755 - entering the grass-court Grand Slam tournament to 545 points - 6,600 to 6,055 - in Monday's new rankings. Nadal beat Federer on Sunday night in a rain-interrupted 4 hours, 48 minutes match, the longest men's championship match in the history of Wimbledon, a tournament that began in 1877.

Wrigley hockey game a go? CHICAGO (AP) - According to a published report, it looks like there will be hockey at Wrigley Field, the home of the Chicago Cubs. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings plan to participate in the National Hockey League's third outdoor game on New Year's Day, and want to use the North Side ballpark as the site. An announcement is expected next week before the Blackhawks Convention at the Chicago Hilton. According to the report, the game was finally approved last week when NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman met with the Hawks, Cubs and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.
Blackhawks sign Walker CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Blackhawks have signed free agent Matt Walker to a one-year contract. The 28-year-old defenseman has spent his whole NHL career with St. Louis. The Blues picked him in the third round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Last year, Walker played in 43 games and logged 61 penalty minutes. He's played in 175 NHL games for the Blues, totaling one goal, 10 assists and 275 penalty minutes.
