Colosimo honored... Northern Illinois softball freshman outfielder Andrea Colosimo was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for this past week's performance. Colosimo joins senior Michelle Nendza on the list of Huskies that received such an honor this season. For the week of April 28 through May 4, Colosimo batted .583 with seven hits, collecting multiple hits in three of five games this past week and getting at least a hit in four of the games. She also had an RBI in every game and had two RBIs a piece in three games for a total of eight in five games. She slugged .750 and her on-base percentage was .722. In the field, she was perfect, committing no errors on six put-outs.

Cubs down Reds... (AP) - In the first five weeks, Carlos Zambrano has been the Chicago Cubs' constant. Zambrano had his way with Cincinnati's slumping lineup, allowing only three hits in eight innings, and Ronny Cedeno singled home a pair of runs that sent the Chicago Cubs to a 3-0 victory on Tuesday night. The Cubs won for only fourth time in 12 games, a span marked by inconsistency all-around. Zambrano (5-1) has been the guy they could depend upon. “He's been great,” said Kerry Wood, who pitched the ninth and finished off a four-hitter. “That's what aces do. They come in when you desperately need one, and we desperately needed one today.”

No-hit bid ends... (AP) - Gavin Floyd's no-hit bid lasted until the ninth this time. Joe Mauer doubled with one out off Chicago's young right-hander for the Minnesota Twins' only hit and Floyd had to settle for a 7-1 victory Tuesday night as the White Sox ended a six-game losing streak. Floyd (3-1) was taken out to a standing ovation after Mauer's double to left-center and Bobby Jenks came on to get the final two outs. Floyd, who held Detroit hitless for 7 1-3 innings on April 12 before Edgar Renteria singled, walked three and struck out four. The only run the Twins could muster was aided by an error on Chicago left fielder Carlos Quentin in the fourth inning.
