Voter turnout sets new records

Tuesday's primary election set records for both DeKalb County and the state, election officials said Wednesday. About half of all registered voters in DeKalb County cast a ballot in Tuesday's primary election, according to the county clerk's office. And nearly 33 percent of Illinois' eligible voters - that is, legal residents 18 or older - cast votes in the primary election, American University's Center for the Study of the American Electorate said Wednesday. The previous record was 29.7 percent in 1980, the organization said.
