Group tries to save horses from slaughter

DeKALB - A man dashed across First Street and along Harvestore Drive around 7:40 a.m. Thursday to a pickup truck pulling a lone trailer on the driveway in front of Cavel International. The man and the truck's driver briefly exchanged words, and then the truck continued through the gates onto the horse slaughterhouse's property. The man walked back to a group of five people gathered in a parking lot across the street and shook his head. &#8220We just want to save a horse,” said Sue Balla, one of the group. &#8220We're willing to pay the same price or better.” They had been denied three times in about 30 minutes. Balla, a Sycamore resident, runs the Field of Dreams Horse Rescue and Adoption in Elburn. She said the group gathered near the plan
