DeKALB - Northern Illinois University students from Alpha Phi Omega, Mortar Board and Inter-Varsity Fellowship visited Oak Crest DeKalb Retirement Center recently for an exchange of ideas with seniors.
The inter-generational exchange provided NIU students with insights into people's careers.
A dozen residents of Oak Crest detailed their career paths in life and retirement experiences while the NIU students listed their majors and career plans.
A question period followed where the seniors explained facets of their lives and jobs that might be helpful to those just entering the world of work.
Participating from NIU were Mike Gillespie, Kathleen Dusing, Lauren Raudabaugh, Colleen Murray, Kristen Olsen, Chivon Niziolek, Debbie Ficken, Jon Walton, Scott Sutarik and Jane Kaykov.
Oak Crest participants were Charles Bradt, Sally Stevens, Ray Zielinski, Isabel Cash, Gene Meyer, Ruth Brown, Hal and Rhea Smith, Marian Elliott and Barry Schrader.
The panel discussion was facilitated by Oak Crest Director of Activities Joan Launer.
