Floral designs bring spring with a worldwide theme

Jackie Young, a designer with Glidden Campus Florist, displays “Runaway Bride” in flowers, in keeping with last year’s theme, “Hooray for Hollywood,” at Altrusa’s annual floral design show. Provided photo.

DeKALB - Sights, sounds and scents of spring will be all around those who attend the annual DeKalb, Sycamore Altrusa and Glidden Campus Florist's floral design show. If spring is in the air outside, it will be duplicated on the inside, but if winter still has a grip on the area, a breath of springtime will be brought by flowering plants and silk blossoms to the show at 7 p.m. April 6 at Egyptian Theatre. Doors open at 6 p.m. Ron Gilbertson will be the master floral commentator, bringing his witty remarks as in past years. Denny Vaupal again will accompany the show with tunes. The five designers have picked &#8220Around the World with Flowers” as the theme and will design many of their creations on the stage in front of the audience. &#8220Their enthusiam and the lovely flowers always add up to beautiful designs,” said Rosemarie Ostberg, Altrusa publicity chairperson. She said that, best of all at this springtime treat, the designs are made of either fresh or silk flowers and all the flowering plants will leave the theater with excited audience members. Tickets to this springtime treat are $10 in advance available at Glidden Campus Florist, Megan Morrison House and Garden, The Confectionary in DeKalb and Sycamore, Browns' County Market and at the front desk of Kishwaukee Community Hospital or $12 at the door. Most of the procedes from this fundraiser are devoted to the promotion of literacy programs mainly in DeKalb County. For information, call Ostberg at (815) 758-5216.
