Pay-It-Forward House to celebrate first birthday

SYCAMORE - Pay-It-Forward House invites everyone to come to its First-Year Birthday Celebration from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday at 719 Somonauk St. The hospitality house, which is adjacent to Kindred Hospital, opened in late March 2005. It has provided daytime respite and overnight accommodations in a homelike environment to more than 125 people related to patients receiving medical treatment at Kindred. The birthday celebration will be a traditional high tea, with homemade scones, tea sandwiches, freshly steeped tea in china cups, and a birthday cake. This is a chance to see the hospitality house, meet volunteers and learn about the organization's mission. Members of the Steering Committee will be there to extend their gratitude to the community for the support Pay-It-Forward House has received over the past year. Kindred Hospital is a 69-bed long-term acute-care facility providing intensive, medically complex services to ventilator, dialysis and wound patients. The Medicare-certified hospital offers a team-based approach to meet individual patient needs and is accredited by the Joint Council on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Pay-It-Forward House is a charitable and benevolent not-for-profit corporation that seeks to provide low-cost, temporary respite for family members of patients at Kindred Hospital in a comfortable, home-away-from-home setting. It operates under the provisions of Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code, and all contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. The estimated cost of providing one night's lodging is $25. Community members' financial support pays for ongoing operations that keep the guests comfortable (such as heat, electricity and water) and is greatly appreciated.
