Two men charged in 'random' shooting
DeKALB - Two Chicago men have been arrested in connection with an early Wednesday morning shooting at the University Village apartment complex. Marcus J. Marshall, 20, and Charles Hood III, 20, were taken into custody around 10:30 a.m. Wednes-day on Ruby Lane. They and a third person in a red Ford reportedly had been seen leaving the scene of the shooting about nine hours earlier. Marshall is charged with attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm. Hood is charged with aggravated battery. Nothing was stolen in the incident. DeKalb Police Sgt. Gary Spangler said the incident appears to be random. Police were called around 1:30 a.m. to an apartment at 847 Russell Road in regard to a shooting. When they arrived, they found that William "Sean" Green, 30, of Downers Grove had been shot four times - once in the chest, once in the hip and twice in the leg - Police Chief Bill Feithen said. He was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital where he had surgery and is recovering. Police said Green was able to speak and help investigators. Spangler said the men involved in the shooting and Green did not know one another. He said that about an hour before the shooting, the men exchanged words with Green. Green was shot in the parking lot. He was leaving his girlfriend's apartment, his girlfriend said Wednesday. An investigation continues, and additional charges are pending against Marshall and Hood. Feithen said no charges are expected against the third man in the red Ford. He said the man was not involved in the shooting and remained in the Ford while it occurred. The DeKalb County Sheriff's Police and the Illinois State Police helped in the investigation. Aggravated battery with a firearm is a Class X felony and is punishable by six to 30 years in prison and a fine of $25,000. Attempted armed robbery is a Class 1 felony punishable by four to 15 years in prison and a fine of $25,000. Aggravated battery is a Class 3 felony and is punishable by two to five years in prison and a fine of $25,000. Marshall was given a $500,000 bond and Hood a $10,000 bond this morning during bond call at DeKalb County Courthouse. They must pay 10 percent of their bonds to be released from jail.
