Article:	Phillips named NIU athletics director DeKALB - University of Notre Dame Senior Associate Athletics Director Jim Phillips was introduced at 10:30 a.m. today as Northern Illinois University's new athletics director. The university made the announcement official in an initial press conference held at Mike Ditka's Restaurant in Chicago and was set to announce it again at a 3 p.m. Convocation Center gathering. Phillips succeeds Cary Groth, who ended a 23-year association with her alma mater - the last 10 as AD - in March when she chose to become the athletics director for the University of Nevada at Reno.
