Sycamore earns third straight regional title
BELVIDERE - If Sycamore High School was to attain a third straight regional title, the trip would have to go through some tall timber.
The Spartans, a team of undersized and overlooked players, were a mere afterthought in the 2004 Illinois High School Association Class AA Belvidere High School Regional.
Despite posting 21 wins in the regular season, Sycamore entered the postseason as a No. 5 seed.
The Spartans passed their first test of the playoffs, overcoming a height disadvantage to post a 13-point revenge win over rival DeKalb High School on Wednesday.
Two days later, Sycamore got another solid game from its guards and knocked off No. 4 seeded Rockford Jefferson High School, 55-50, in Friday's championship game of the Belvidere Regional
