NIU guard Darius Beane (24) shoots a three pointer against the Miami Redhawks in DeKalb Feb. 1.

Tip-off: 6 p.m. Friday, NIU Convocation Center

Records: NIU (14-9 overall, 7-2 Mid-American Conference), Golden Flashes (16-7, 6-4)

All-time series: The Flashes lead, 38-22, although NIU did win 76-69 in Ohio last month.

Who to watch: Danny Pippen led the Flashes with 18 points and nine rebounds in the loss on January 21. Eugene German had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Huskies.

The lowdown: Not only is German the leading scorer in NIU history, but he's also 13th all-time in the MAC with 2,025 points. The last time NIU was 7-3 to start MAC play was in 2002-03. Kent State lost 62-54 against Ball State on Tuesday. The Huskies have more conference wins than any team in the MAC West, but have played two more games than Central Michigan.

Key to the game: Kent State comes into the nationally televised game on CBS Sports Net averaging almost 77 points per game, but managed just 69 against the Huskies and their defense the last time around. That win for NIU started a five-game win streak, and the 69 points they gave up is by far the most on the streak – they allowed 61 last time out in a win against Toledo.
