DeKalb woman cited after crashing into McHenry County Sheriff squad car

Deputy was out of the vehicle conducting a traffic stop when crash occured

An 82-year-old DeKalb woman was cited after she crashed into a McHenry County Sheriff’s Office squad car early Thursday.

A McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy was conducting a traffic stop at Route 14 near Deep Cut Road, outside Harvard, around 12:20 a.m. when the crash occured. The squad car had its emergency lights engaged and was parked on eastbound Route 14, said Woodstock Police Department’s Deputy Chief Ray Lanz.

Woodstock Police Department handled the incident because a sheriff’s office vehicle was involved.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the squad car was traveling eastbound on Route 14 and told police she misjudged the distance between her car and the squad car, and couldn’t yield in time, Lanz said.

Florence Rauworth, 82, of DeKalb, was cited for driving without a valid drivers license, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and improper passing of an emergency vehicle causing property damage, Lanz said.

The squad car sustained more than $1,500 in damages, he said.

No one was seriously injured.
