Prep roundup: Leon scores in 17th straight game

Junior Leon scored a goal in his 17th straight game as the Genoa-Kingston soccer team beat Westminster Christian, 4-2, on Tuesday.

The Cogs scored twice in the second half to break a tie for the win. Aiden Tomlinson scored in the 57th minute and Eagan Reams scored 10 minutes later off an assist from Leon.

Leon started the scoring in the 22nd minute, then Reams scored on an assist from Leon in the 30th minute as the Cogs regained the lead.

Indian Creek falls short of LTC final: The Timberwolves couldn't find last-minute magic in falling to Newark 2-1 in a Little Ten Conference semifinal.

The Timberwolves will play Serena for third place Thursday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

DeKalb falls to Naperville Central: The Barbs lost at home, 25-17, 25-12.

Kaneland rolls: The Knights dispatched Sandwich, 25-8, 25-14.

Kaneland improved to 18-7 overall and 8-1 in conference.

G-K falls at Dixon: The Cogs lost, 25-15, 25-17.

GIRLS TENNIS

Spartans drop close dual: Sycamore dropped a tight affair 4-3 to Woodstock North.

The Spartans dropped three matches in singles. Winning in doubles for Sycamore were the pairings of Laramie O'Sullivan/Kylie Plagakis 6-2, 6-1, Kaitlyn Berntsen and Emma Hardin 6-4, 7-5 and Maire O'Brien/Anastacia Wolfe 6-1, 1-6, 10-5.

LATE MONDAY

H-BR falls to Serena in L10 opener: The Royals fell, 2-1, to start the Little 10 Conference tournament.

Carson Pickert had the goal for the Royals (7-9-1), who play again Thursday in the fifth-place game at 4 p.m against Somonauk.
