Why Leon was selected
The Genoa-Kingston forward scored nine goals in four games, setting the school's new single-season scoring record with 35 at the end of the week. He defeated DeKalb football player Donovan Lacey and Kaneland golfer Lucas Pehl in an online poll.
• On what's been working during his scoring streak, which reached 16 games last week
"It's just chemistry with the team. We've been getting along well and everything is working great right now.
• On what it's like holding a school record as a freshman
"It feels great. Not many people accomplish that kind of record. It's so unexpected. It takes people a long time to accomplish that sort of thing, it's rare to do it in your first year."
• On what the team expects for the postseason, which starts next week
"We know we've got this and it's hosted here, which is a great thing. All of our people are going to be here. It's going to be great."

Why Overstreet and Jerbi were selected
The Genoa-Kingston distance runners each placed at a home meet early in the week, then donned matching Halloween costumes and won a relay race at Harvard dressed as Crocs footwear. They beat out Sycamore golfer Lauren Cohn and Hinckley-Big Rock volleyball player Tessa Prellberg.
• On what the race was like Saturday
Jerbi: "It was definitely different, especially not wearing a team uniform and something more fun. It wasn't as competitive because it was more of a fun thing. But for both of us to push each other was really good."
• On what led to getting the win
Overstreet: "Kaity got us far ahead so I I knew if I lost the lead, I didn't want her made at me. (Laughs). I figured it was only a half mile loop we had to run twice so as long as I went hard I'd be fine."
• On goals the team has for the postseason:
Overstreet: We feel pretty good. We have a chance to go to sectionals and that mainly my goal, to qualify as a team. We went the last three years as a team so I want to do that for my last year also."
