To the Editor:
Congressman Adam Kinzinger’s (R-16) values were clearly on display when he called in to a conservative radio program on Sept. 18 to weigh in on the confirmation hearings of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh as further evidence of Democratic overreach.
Kinzinger’s summation was that, “there has got to be a point at which we stop judging yesterday’s behavior by today’s standards.” I am from the same generation as Justice Kavanaugh, and Kinzinger should be informed that the behavior ascribed to Kavanaugh was considered just as violent, sick and twisted then as it is today.
Kinzinger’s statement speaks volumes, but in particular it indicates he believed Kavanaugh was guilty of the transgressions, but did not deserve consequences because it happened in a time where he envisions such deviant behavior as having been acceptable. He was wrong, and supporting Kavanaugh was the wrong thing to do.
It is not just in regard to Kavanaugh that Kinzinger has shown his true colors.
On Sept. 25, an official email blast from Kinzinger announced that the Democrats in Congress had begun an impeachment process because they did not want to accept the results of the 2016 election. Kinzinger called the impeachment process a “crusade,” “ridiculous” and “nothing short of a disregard for the will of the American people and our democracy.”
Kinzinger’s email also took full advantage of the situation by placing large “DONATE NOW” buttons throughout the message to fund Mr. Kinzinger’s imminent battle to prevent our country from, “being torn apart.”
In the closing of his email, Kinzinger stated, “I’m calling on every Team Kinzinger supporter to make their voice heard and donate whatever you can right now, to send a message that we will not stand for this attack on the very foundation of our country.” I am not on Team Kinzinger. I am one of the thousands of constituents you have ignored since the 2016 election, so I am choosing to send my message this way.
The future of our nation is at stake. Instead of taking advantage of this situation and using people's fears to pocket more money, you should stop toeing the Trump company line and do your job. The evidence is in. The evidence is clear. When it comes to impeaching Trump, don’t miss another chance to do the right thing.
