Fox Valley Community Services Home Services director Regina Zwart and Adult Day Service director Betty Erickson, RN, recently received special accreditation from Boston University Center for Aging and Disability Education and Research.
This advanced training assists both directors in their successful management of two important programs at Fox Valley Community Services: Home Services and Adult Day Service.
Through its Home Services Program, FVCS offers nonmedical in-home assistance to seniors in DeKalb, Kane, Kendall and LaSalle counties. Home Services is a community-based program for adults with various health and age-related problems, whose care is directed by an individualized plan that addresses health, emotional and social needs. About 100 aides, who are background-checked, fingerprinted and preservice trained, are closely matched with clients whose needs are met and monitored. All clients remain in their own homes with this assistance. Some of the tasks performed include personal care assistance, light housekeeping, errands, doctor’s visits and companionship.
Adult Day Service is staffed full time by Erickson, certified nurses’ aides and activity aides. Many of the ADS clients are experiencing memory loss because Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Others attend because they have mobility and other health problems, requiring them to be cared for by caregivers who may work and have to attend to other business and family matters. A cozy home environment at Fox Valley Community Center in Sandwich offers planned activities focusing on the development of the mind, body and spirit. Clients enjoy being included in the daily congregate meal and entertainment at the center.
For many years, this agency has worked with the Illinois Department of Aging and The Department of Human Resources to assist those who qualify through financial need and a daily living skills determination. FVCS also is licensed through the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Private Pay Service’s program to serve all adults older than 18, in all four counties, regardless of financial or physical needs. Private insurance and veterans assistance are accepted.
These programs are administered at the Fox Valley Community Center in Sandwich along with active adult activities and trips. Transportation and nutrition services are offered with Voluntary Action Center.
