Thanks to officers at Special Olympics fundraiser
To the Editor:
Thursday night, Aug. 29, was a fundraising event at the Sycamore Culver’s to benefit Special Olympics. Sycamore police officers were there collecting donations and delivering food to the customers. Several of the athletes were present to assist the officers. My daughter was one of those athletes. I can’t even express my deepest gratitude at the wonderful, caring spirit of the officers I met (and didn’t get to meet) for investing their time for this charity.
Officers Sharon and Michael Anderson were incredible to my daughter, patiently answering all her questions and engaging with her. My daughter was so excited and was going out of her way to be “crazy” to get their attention.
Thank you to all who participated and all of the great customers who were receptive and considerate to my daughter. Thank you, also, to all the residents of DeKalb County who donated during this event. I also want to express my gratitude to Mary and Edith for all that they do for the Special Olympics; I am lucky to have met you.
I don’t really have eloquent words to express my feeling for this community and the officers (and firemen, paramedics, EMTs ...) who serve the community. Just know that this is the reason I have lived here all my life and will stay here until I pass.
