Time for America to wake up
to dangers of illegal immigration
To the Editor:
“Immigration policies should serve the interests of the American people and of the nation – they should not be viewed as acts of charity to the world. Putting America first is a rational goal. It is the essence of sovereignty. And the sovereign nation-state is the only home of citizenship – as it is the only home of constitutional government,” asserts constitutional scholar Edward J. Erler.
Immigration to America is not an entitlement. America has an immigration law which governs entry. People who enter America in defiance of that law are illegal aliens, not rightful immigrants, despite what socialist liberals such as Gov. JB Pritzker, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former President Barack Obama may say to the contrary.
Obama’s egregious “catch and release” policy enables illegal aliens to flee rather than remain detained while awaiting a court hearing. Almost half of those apprehended fail to appear. Thousands upon thousands of illegal aliens simply vanish into America. It is ludicrous!
Estimates put the number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. anywhere from
11 million to as many as 22 million or more.
Illegal aliens cost American taxpayers an astounding $116 billion each year in welfare, housing, health care and educational handouts.
Socialist liberals have turned America into a haven for the world’s malcontents. It is an atrocity!
Illegal aliens have established a record of murder, sexual assault, kidnapping, drug possession and distribution, theft, robbery, and weapons offenses.
Illegal aliens reside with impunity in 564 “sanctuary” jurisdictions spread throughout America, reports the Federation for American Immigration Reform. These include Illinois and eight other states, and many major cities including Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.
These jurisdictions typically forbid officials and law enforcement officers from making an inquiry about immigration status, reporting suspected illegal aliens, holding criminal illegal aliens in custody or otherwise assisting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Such jurisdictions are explicitly prohibited under federal law. Such jurisdictions are an illegal outrage!
