Stage Coach Players sets auditions for production of ‘Orphan Train’

DeKALB – Stage Coach Players will hold auditions for its upcoming Black Box production of “The Orphan Train,” written by Aurand Harris, later this month.

Set in 1914, “The Orphan Train” tells the story of nine orphaned, unwanted children riding the train, looking for a home, anywhere. The ride takes the children from New York City to stops in the Midwest, where each orphan encounters a mix of anxiety, laughter, wistfulness, rejection and acceptance.

Auditions will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 24 and 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 25, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 218 Somonauk St. in Sycamore.

The cast will include five boys and five girls ranging in age from 8 to 17. Three adult men and three adult women, ages 21 and older, also will be needed to play the perspective adoptive parents. The show will be directed by Anita Biletzky.

Rehearsal will begin Sept. 30 and run Mondays through Thursdays through October. Performances will be Nov. 1 through 3.
