The Kiwanis Club of Sycamore has been gathering new and gently used duffel bags to donate to the Department of Children and Family Services for distribution to children being taken into foster care.
The bags are given to the children to transport their personal belongings.
Often, garbage bags are used as luggage. Duffel bags offer a more dignified way for the items to be transported.
Over the past four years of this ongoing project, more than 200 bags have been donated to DCFS.
On July 23, 39 bags were dropped off at the DeKalb County DCFS office.
Kiwanis’ theme is “Improving the World – one child and one community at a time.” Providing duffel bags does just that, by providing vulnerable children a piece of dignity.
The Kiwanis of Sycamore meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays monthly at Sorrento’s, Route 64 east of Sycamore. Guests always are welcome.
