Mike Reynolds, head coach at Galesburg, is set to be named the next head boys basketball coach at DeKalb, according to the DeKalb School District 428 Board agenda released Friday.
Athletic director Peter Goff was not available for comment. An auto-reply to an email requesting an interview said he was out of the office until Monday.
Reynolds, if approved by the board at Tuesday’s meeting, will take over for Al Biancalana. Reynolds is listed on the agenda as also being hired as “Teacher/Crow’s Landing/Guidance Counselor/High School.”
Reynolds was hired by Galesburg in 2008, winning a regional in 2012-13, according to the IHSA website. The Silver Streaks finished 18-13 last year, losing to Dixon in a regional final.
Biancalana announced he was leaving DeKalb in May, taking an administration position at Glenbard East. He will not coach Glenbard East next season, although Scott Miller – head coach at Glenbard East since 1999 – is retiring at the end of the 2019-20 season.
The Barbs won the Northern Illinois Big 12 East all five years under Biancalana, going 57-8 in conference play.
Julian McElroy coached the Barbs during the summer on an interim basis, leading the team to a 14-1 showing at the Geneva summer league.
