DEKALB – When brothers Benny and Ilir Redzepi went up against each other on the soccer field for the first time, a lightning-quick exchange left both coming up smiling and with a story to share.
Elder brother Benny, 19 years old and a midfielder for DeKalb County United’s Under-23 squad, played 15-year-old brother Ilir of the Northern Illinois Football Club for the first time competitively in a friendly match Tuesday.
Ilir came away with a winning tackle in the exchange.
“I’ve taught him tips and tricks to go up against older players and stronger players, so he obviously picked up on that,” Benny said. “He took me down on a tackle, and he got me pretty good.”
