Irick graduates form basic training
U.S. Air Force Airman Alexander J. Irick graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Irick earned distinction as an honor graduate.
He is the son of Melissa and Charlie Irick of DeKalb and a 2016 graduate of DeKalb High School.
WIU ROTC cadets commissioned as second lieutenant
Three Western Illinois University Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets were commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army during Commencement weekend, including John Busby of DeKalb.
Major General Chris R. Gentry, the first army deputy commanding general-support, spoke to the cadets before the commissioning, and LTC Joan Sommers swore them in as second lieutenants.
Busby received his bachelor's degree in law enforcement and justice administration. He will commission in the Army on active duty and will serve in Ordnance in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Busby was pinned by his parents, Fred and Tracey Busby.
