NIU baseball: Lasiewicz's gem pushes Huskies past Miami

Northern Illinois pitcher Michael Lasiewicz tossed a complete game shutout in a 4-0 Huskies win over Miami to begin NIU's run at the Mid-American Conference Championship tournament in Avon, Ohio Wednesday.

Lasiewicz allowed two hits, one walk and struck out eight RedHawks as the NIU defense played errorless baseball.

"Masterful performance, that's all I can say, by Mike. We've been waiting for that from him all year," NIU coach Mike Kunigonis said.

Jake Dunham contributed an RBI double. Kam Smith drove in Dunham with a single. Tommy Szczasny scored on a Nick Drobusevich squeeze bunt.

The Huskies are set to play Ball State Thursday at 5 p.m. central time, with the winner moving on to the conference semifinal.
