SYCAMORE – The key to keeping Dixon’s Taylor Harrison from scoring, Sycamore coach Kevin Bickley said, was to make sure the speedy 50-goal scorer didn’t get the ball.
The strategy worked, as Harrison managed only one shot and the Spartans scored three times in the second half for a 3-0 win in the Class 2A Sycamore Regional championship.
“Once that ball was played into the midfield, we really wanted to deny that first pass,” Bickley said. “We watched them play the second half at Sterling, and they really were able to get the ball in the middle and slot between the defenders, and she ran by them. We figure if we don’t let that ball get slotted through, then she’s not going to get that ball. We also wanted defenders in front of her, defenders in back of her and just don’t allow that ball. She had a couple close ones. She’s definitely a good player, and our four backs worked hard for it.”
