DeKALB – DeKalb police have made an arrest in a shots-fired incident that happened Wednesday in the 500 block of West Hillcrest Drive.
Deputy Police Chief John Petragallo said Friday that Shakiem Slaughter, 25, of Chicago was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
If convicted of the most serious charge, Slaughter could face four to 15 years in prison.
An investigation led police to believe Slaughter was the driver of a silver car that witnesses reported left the scene after shots were fired from the vehicle and were aimed at another vehicle, Petragallo said. Police had been searching for the vehicle since Wednesday.
Police responded to multiple reports of gunshots on West Hillcrest Drive about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Petragallo said.
Petragallo said police arrested Slaughter on Thursday, and he was later taken to the DeKalb County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
The investigation is ongoing, Petragallo said.
“We located the vehicle and Slaughter traveling on Annie Glidden Road toward [Interstate 88 on] Thursday,” Petragallo said Friday. “We performed a traffic stop, and he was arrested.”
Petragallo said during a search of the man’s vehicle, police found a loaded handgun.
