Boys track and field: Spartans qualify four, Cogs one for state

STERLING – Sycamore qualified for state in four events and Genoa-Kingston one after a lightning-filled, rain-soaked session Thursday night at the Class 2A Sterling Boys Track & Field Sectional at Roscoe Eades Stadium.

The Spartans had a champion in Zack Rissman, who cleared 12 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault. It equaled his season best.

“This has been my goal since Week 1,” Rissman said. “It will be my first time going down, so that’s super exciting. [Wednesday] night I was reflecting on the past couple of seasons and what I needed to do to do this, and now I’m going to state.”
