Police still searching for vehicle involved in Wednesday night drive-by shooting

DeKALB – DeKalb police are searching for the occupants of a vehicle that they believe was involved in a shots-fired incident Wednesday.

DeKalb police responded to multiple reports of gunshots in the 500 block of West Hillcrest Drive shortly after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Deputy Chief John Petragallo said. There were no injuries reported and no arrests have been made, Petragallo said Thursday.

Police believe there were two vehicles involved in a drive-by shooting, but the car and the shooter are still on the run.

Petragallo said DeKalb police are searching for an older model silver sedan that was seen in the area at the time of the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to call DeKalb police at 815-748-8400. There also was a second vehicle on the scene with a person in it, Petragallo said.

"Officers arrived on the scene and saw evidence that a shooting had taken place," Petragallo said, adding that there were multiple shots fired. "It was not a random act, and we believe there is a connection between the two vehicles."

He said he could not give specific details because the investigation is still ongoing.

"We don't believe that location as specific to this crime," Petragallo said. "So we don't believe there's any danger to that area."
