The DeKalb baseball team snagged its first Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference win of the season in its final conference game Tuesday, defeating Yorkville at home, 5-4.
Jarrett Sykes doubled in the sixth inning to score Glenn Williams and give the Barbs the lead. Sykes was 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Keegan Smith was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Ryne Kerschke added a hit and a run scored.
Kerschke pitched six innings for the Barbs, giving up nine hits and four runs. Williams picked up the save for the Barbs.
G-K fends off Stillman Valley: Genoa-Kingston bounced back from a Monday loss to Stillman Valley to defeat the Cardinals on Tuesday, 7-3.
Connor Schwichtenberg had a triple to score three runs and was 2 for 4. Will Franson had a hit and scored twice. Jaxon Blank went 3 for 3 with a run and two RBIs. Ben Franson pitched four innings and struck out four while surrendering three runs.
Kaneland beats Marmion: The Knights outhit Marmion, 10-4, in a 5-2 victory.
Mikey Rogers, Angel Acevedo and Nick Ortegel collected three hits apiece for Kaneland. Rogers, Dalton Askew and Bryce Stair each had an RBI.
Cogs fall to Stillman Valley: Genoa-Kingston was handed a 6-3 loss despite having nine hits to Stillman Valley’s eight.
Ashley Clemente was 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Ashley Peterson went 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
H-BR’s season ends: Hinckley-Big Rock’s season came to an end as the Royals fell, 10-0, and were no-hit by Marquette in a Class 1A Amboy Regional semifinal.
Hawks move on: Hiawatha defeated Alden-Hebron, 8-6, in a Class 1A Pecatonica Regional semifinal.
The Hawks’ Brooke Braden was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Maddy Bellah went 1 for 3 with two runs scored. Naomi Langley was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Calli Schell added two runs, and Oliva Rotstein scored three times. Megan Rush also had a double, a run scored and an RBI.
Knights clinch outright title: Kaneland defeated Morris, 11-0, and with Sycamore defeating Yorkville on Tuesday, the Knights clinched the title.
McKenna Ryan pitched a three-hitter. Donatela Sommesi had four hits and drove in four runs. Rose Roach and Maddy Wheatley had two hits each.
