DeKALB – Residents are invited to get their hands dirty and help Egyptian Theatre staff break ground to pave the way for their $4.5 million renovation project.
A groundbreaking ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, outside the theater, 135 N. Second St., according to a news release from the theater.
The long-awaited expansion project will add air conditioning for the first time in the theater’s 90-year history, expand bathrooms on the first and second floors, and increase concession offerings for both floors.

The historic Egyptian Theatre is owned and operated by Preservation of Egyptian Theatre, Inc., and provided annual support by First National Bank, Northwestern Medicine, Shaw Media, and Tapa La Luna.
