Area roundup: Moline grad Drobushevich named MAC Co-Player of The Week; G-K softball sweeps Byron

Nick Drobushevich shared MAC Co-Player of The Week honors Monday after hitting .688 in four games last week against UIC and Western Michigan. Drobushevich had a .700 on-base percentage and slugged 1.062 for the week.
 
PREP BASEBALL
Barbs shutout by Morris: DeKalb baseball had its game moved to Morris on Monday and couldn’t get the bats going in a 10-0 loss. Jarrett Sykes and James Keck had the two Barbs hits. Glenn Williams took the pitching loss.

PREP SOFTBALL
Cogs sweep Byron: Genoa-Kingston broke out the bats in sweeping Byron by scores of 14-3 and 15-5.
Leah Perry and Maddy McCarty each had three hits apiece in the 14-3 win. Ashley Peterson went 2 for 4 in that game with three RBIs. Sandusky drove in four runs. Olivia Simmons struck out six and earned the win.
Peterson had two hits with two doubles in the 15-5 victory. Leyah Langley contributed a 3-for-4 day with two runs and two RBIs. Carly Klein was also 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Clemente picked up the pitching win and blasted a home run.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD
Barbs sixth at Ottawa: DeKalb grabbed sixth, with Aidan Donahue’s performance representing the Barbs’ lone individual victory at the Ottawa ABC Invite. Donahue finished the 800 meters in 1:58.71. DeKalb took second in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
The Barbs’ Ryan Hernandez was runner-up in the 100 hurdles (16.50 seconds) and Sycamore’s Tyler Carter was third (16.60). Carter grabbed the top spot in the 300-meter hurdles field with a time of 42.27 seconds. Jamari Newell grabbed third overall in the 400 meters (52.18 seconds). Jaylen Hobson was runner-up in the long jump (20-11).

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
Overton leads Barbs at Schaumburg: Maddi Overton led the way individually as DeKalb took eighth at Schaumburg’s Mike Rebeck Invite.
Overton took first in the discus with her heave of 119 feet, 3 inches, and grabbed third in the shot put (33-10). Florence Omodayo grabbed third in the triple jump and high jump.
