SYCAMORE – Families with children in District 427 schools who had hoped to make Memorial Day weekend part of a summer vacation might have to rethink their plans.
The six school days lost to inclement weather will have students finish up the school year after Memorial Day, with the last attendance day May 30. School board members approved the change at their meeting Tuesday.
Weather-related cancellations that began with a snowstorm Nov. 26 and continued with dangerously cold weather in January resulted in six school days being lost. One day was made up by having students attend on Presidents' Day,, and the other four will be made up at the end of May, according to district officials.
The sixth missed attendance day has been approved by state education officials as an Act of God day and does not need to be made up.
Teachers will have their last workday a day after school is out, Friday, May 31.
