Knittin’ with Kittens at the public library

DeKALB – About 15 people and five cats attended the Knittin’ with Kittens event Thursday at the DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak St. in DeKalb.

Colleen Rittmeyer, volunteer program coordinator at the library and a volunteer at Tails Humane Society, organized the event. All of the cats were from Tails and were adoptable.

“After the success and popularity of cat yoga, I thought knitting and crocheting with cats would be great for cat lovers,” Rittmeyer said. “There’s been a lot of interest. People love the idea.”

Cats roamed the room, played with yarn, chased each other and relaxed on half-made projects, including scarves and blankets.

“It’s nice just to have them around,” Stephanie Hinsch of DeKalb said. “They’re cute and playful, and a fun distraction.”

Andee Larson of DeKalb attended the event to work on an afghan and play with kittens.

“I’m a big fan of knitting, the library and cats, so I signed up to attend the event,” Larson said. “What’s not to love?”
