DeKalb County Sheriff increasing patrols for St. Patrick's Day weekend

People planning on enjoying St. Patrick’s Day festivities over the weekend shouldn’t test their luck when it comes to drinking and driving, says the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a news release, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office will be sending out special patrols throughout the holiday weekend.

The patrols will be out during all hours of the day to arrest impaired drivers and encourage the use of seat belts for all vehicle occupants.

The release warns people hosting parties to remember they can be held responsible if someone they served gets in a car crash while driving under the influence.

The sheriff’s office also encourages people to use cabs or ride-sharing apps to travel and to take any keys away from people trying to drive impaired.

Pedestrians should also be vigilant for impaired drivers who may not obey the rules of the road, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office St. Patrick’s Day enforcement campaign is part of the Illinois Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click it or Ticket programs paid for through federal funds and administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
