Sam has a coaching pedigree, having coached women’s basketball at the University of Sioux Falls and at Bemidji State in Minnesota. She played at the Division I level for UMKC.
“[Sam’s] extremely, extremely competitive and excited about this opportunity,” Jones said.
“If anybody gets it, she gets it.”
At Concordia, Jones was a passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Jones joins offensive coordinator Eric Eidsness and tight ends coach Tony Sorrentino as coaches on staff who have coached the quarterback position.
“It was definitely a process that caught me off guard. I was just returning home from the national coaches convention down in San Antonio (from Jan. 6 to 9),” Jones said. “I had a chance to coach up with some of my old buddies and things like that. A few days after, I get a phone call, ‘Hey, be ready, there might be an opportunity coming up. Better start sending your information over’ and all of that stuff. Those conversations were awesome. It caught [me] off guard a little bit, but it was definitely exciting. It still is.”
