Northern Illiniois coach Rod Carey is one of a handful of candidates contacted in connection with the Temple head coaching vacancy, according to a report.
Marc Narducci of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Carey has been contacted about the position.
Further reports Tuesday had Wisconsin offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Joe Rudolph interviewing for the position, said Bruce Feldman of the Athletic. Adam Rittenberg of ESPN said Eastern Michigan coach Chris Creighton is also in the mix.
The Owls originally hired Miami defensive coordinator Manny Diaz as head coach Dec. 13 to replace Geoff Collins. But Diaz went back to Miami as the head coach after Mark Richt unexpectedly left after a bowl loss.
That led to another search for the Owls.
Carey led the Huskies in the Orange Bowl in 2012 as the interim coach, and became the head coach in 2013. He’s won two MAC titles, including this year with a comeback win against Buffalo.
Carey is 52-30 overall and 40-12 against the MAC. He is 0-6 in bowl games, including a 37-13 loss to UAB in December’s Boca Bowl.
