MALTA – Malta will kick off the Christmas season with three events Saturday, according to a news release.
The annual Community Appreciation Holiday Party will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Malta Township Public Library, 203 E. Adams St. There will be a holiday craft for kids, raffles for several baskets, cookies and hot apple cider and horse-drawn wagon rides around town to see holiday decorations.
About 5:30 p.m., the horse-drawn wagon will begin to take people to Lions Park, 409 N. Fourth St., for the Christmas tree lighting hosted by the Malta Lions Club. From 5 to 7 p.m., the Malta Lions will be serving hot chocolate and cookies while Santa will greet the children between 6 and 6:30 p.m.
Night owls also can party like it’s 1933 from 5 p.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday at Remington’s Gastropub, 102 S. Third St. Remington’s will be celebrating the anniversary of the repeal of prohibition, speakeasy-style. The front doors and windows will be covered, so in order to get into the party, contact Remingtons on Facebook for the password.
There will be a $2 cover charge for those in 1930s costume and $10 for those who are not dressed up. All money raised at the door will go to Big Brother, Big Sister in DeKalb to “adopt a family” for Christmas this year.
