KSO to present annual Winter Wonderland concert

The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra will present its annual Winter Wonderland concert at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall, in the Music Building at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

DeKALB -- The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra plans to delight concert-goers once again with its annual Winter Wonderland concert at 7 p.m. Friday and a repeat performance at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall, in the Music Building at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

The orchestra will play music of the holiday season, including contemporary and familiar traditional music and holiday favorites including, “Rudolph the Red- Nosed Reindeer,” by Johnny Marks, transcribed by Patrick Sheehan, “Here Comes Santa Claus” and “Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town,” by Oakley Haldeman/Gene Autry, John Frederick Coots/Haven Gillespie, transcribed by Patrick Sheehan, featuring special guest soloist, local singer Marybeth Kurnat.

Pre-concert music will be provided by the NIU Suzuki Strings Program, directed by Concertmaster Ann Montzka Smelser. Post-concert music will be provided by the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet. Complimentary refreshments will be served after each performance. This concert is supported in part by the George E. and Betty B. Dutton Foundation.

Tickets go on sale 30 minutes prior to each concert in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall lobby, NIU Music Building. All seats are general admission; it is recommended to arrive early. Individual ticket prices are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors 62 and older, and $7 for students (with a valid school ID) and children younger than 12.

Tickets may also be purchased by calling the Egyptian Theatre box office at 815-758-1225 or in-person at the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St., DeKalb, between 3 and 6 p.m. on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, with cash, check or credit card.
