Shooting catches fire in 2nd half as NIU downs Yale in preseason WNIT
DeKALB – On a night when the shots weren’t falling, Northern Illinois opened the season Thursday with a gritty come-from-behind win against the Yale Bulldogs, 89-80.
“I said before the game started that I figured it would be entertaining, and I don’t think it disappointed,” NIU coach Lisa Carlsen said. “We beat a very good Yale team, and I’m very proud of some things we did, especially in the second half when we were down.”
The Huskies (1-0) twice looked up at an 11-point deficit in the game. Midway into the third quarter, the Huskies trailed for the second time by 11, but NIU clawed its way back with scrappy play and timely shooting.
