In the Class 2A girls race, Kaneland junior Rachel Richtman earned all-state for the third straight year by taking 15th (17:47.47). The Knights were 19th (39).
Richtman broke 18:00 for the first time this season to join Kerry Rink (1985 to 1987) as the program’s only three-time all-staters. Richtman was 12th last year and 18th as a freshman.
“Coming into this I was a little nervous because my times weren’t as fast as they were last year. I was like, ‘My one goal is all-state,’ ” Richtman said.
Matt Richtman helped his younger sister’s confidence with his letter among those presented to the team during their trip to Peoria on Friday.
“I read it a few times before my race and I was like, ‘OK, if he believes in me. I can do it,’ ” Rachel Richtman said. “I had a lot of help from the people around me. My team was great in supporting me throughout the whole season, even when I’d be upset about a bad race.”
