AKRON, Ohio – The way Tre Harbison ran between the tackles Thursday, it’s a wonder Northern Illinois coach Rod Carey wasn’t tempted to hand off the ball to his sophomore back every play.
When Harbison ran into one of his own linemen on NIU’s first run of the second half, bounced off and cut upfield down the left hash, he rumbled 23 yards.
With the run, Harbison broke his career high in rushing yards for a game, finishing with 169 yards and a rushing score on 23 carries.
“We take big pride in our running back room,” Harbison said. “We honestly feel like we can do that on anybody. ... So all they gotta do is give us the ball and let us go to work. It’s definitely a pride thing with us, but it didn’t surprise us at all.”
