DeKALB – A two-vehicle crash at the corner of Peace Road and Greenwood Acres on Thursday afternoon sent five people to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital.

The crash happened about 4 p.m. and was the result of a driver failing to yield while pulling onto Peace Road from Greenwood Acres, DeKalb police
Sgt. Chad McNett said.

“Peace Road is busy and full of people,” McNett said.

DeKalb police Sgt. Joe Espy said Oporta Rivas, 46, was driving east on Greenwood Acres in a gray 2016 Chevrolet Cruze when she pulled in front of a 2005 Chrysler 300 going south.

The four occupants of the Chrysler and Rivas were all taken to the hospital, and Espy said he couldn’t speak to the extent of their injuries.

McNett, shortly after the crash, said he did not think the injuries were life-threatening.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies were also at the scene.
