SYCAMORE – Police officials said a call that came in this weekend about possible shots fired in a Sycamore neighborhood turned out to be unfounded.

Sycamore Police Cmdr. Steve Cook said a call came in about 12:15 a.m. Sunday about something that sounded like gunshots in the Woodgate subdivision area around Constance Lane, which is behind Farm & Fleet, 1300 DeKalb Ave.

“But it turned out to be someone shooting fireworks,” Cook said.

Cook said four more people called the police to report the incident shortly after the initial call about midnight.

Cook said police were able to determine the noise came from fireworks because someone in the area saw the fireworks going off.

Cook said it’s good to hear from residents reaching out with such concerns.

“We appreciate it when people call in if they think something is going on like that,” Cook said.
