MUNCIE, Indiana – Ball State made things interesting, but the Northern Illinois football held on in the Battle of the Bronze Stalk for the 10th straight year, winning 24-16 on Saturday.
Ball State got down to the NIU 35 in the final seconds but the final fourth-down Hail Mary was batted down as time expired.
"I would have like to have ended the ball with the offense, but it was disappointing we weren't able to do that," said Carey of his Huskies, who led 14-0 in the second quarter. "They had to get back on the field, as gassed as they were. I thought we had it early on that fourth down and 7, but the guy made a heck of a catch. Then the ball fell in the end zone at the end, so that was good."
