Rockdale man hit by truck at mud bog event

Police: Man suffered life-threatening injuries after standing on the wrong side of barricade

SANDWICH – As a Rockdale man is in a Downers Grove hospital with life-threatening injuries, police are seeking video for more details on how he got hit by a mud truck during an event Saturday evening at the fairgrounds.

According to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded about 5 p.m. to the fairgrounds, 1401 Suydam Road, where Edward E. Oldaker, 48, of the 100 block Central Avenue, had been struck by a mud truck driven by Brittany M. Thom, 24, of the W200 block of County Road N. in Niagara, Wisconsin, during the Dirty Grape Off-Road event.

According to the release, video taken at the event shows Oldaker was standing on the edge of the end of the track, on the wrong side of a protective, concrete barricade, when Thom’s modified off-road 1997 Chevy S-10 pickup traveled south on the mud truck, reached the end and went left, where it struck Oldaker.

Oldaker was flown to Good Samaritan Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

The sheriff’s office asks that anyone who witnessed or took video of the incident call 815-895-2155.
