Esmond field fire quickly subdued; multiple fire departments respond

ESMOND – A field fire that lit up both sides of a field west of McQueen Road quickly was controlled Friday afternoon, Malta Assistant Fire Chief Roger Elliott said.
The Malta Fire Department responded about 4 p.m. to a report of a blaze, and the DeKalb, Creston, Kirkland and Shabbona departments assisted.
Elliott said property damage was negligible, at best, but that at one point a line of fire was scorching the field.
"The gusting winds certainly assisted it," he said.
By 4:45 p.m., there were pockets of fires, but the incident generally was under control, Elliott said.
