Safe Passage to host annual domestic violence vigil next month

DeKALB – Safe Passage will host a domestic violence vigil early next month in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The vigil, scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 1 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 615 N. First St., will acknowledge the pain and loss from abuse in the past year and celebrate the resiliency and strength of survivors. It will include a brief program, art viewing, survivors sharing their experiences and candlelight vigil, according to a news release.

Safe Passage is a domestic violence and rape crisis center in DeKalb County. The organization offers safe housing, crisis intervention and medical advocacy for victims, counseling, legal advocacy, children’s services, prevention programming and a partner-abuse intervention program.

The organization serves all survivors of domestic and sexual violence, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, race, immigration status, faith or ability. All services at Safe Passage are free and confidential.
