The DeKalb County Health Department launched a monthlong initiative to raise public awareness of emergency preparedness.
Throughout the month, the department’s Emergency Preparedness Team will encourage the community to prepare for emergencies, particularly those related to severe weather, according to a news release.
The three points of focused in the second year of the initiative will be to build an emergency supplies kit, make an action plan and to to stay informed so you’re prepared.
Kits with supplies including a weather alert radio with a flashlight and cellphone charging capabilities, first aid kit and masks will be distributed at these locations on a first come, first served basis: 8:15 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church, 1145 DeKalb Ave. in Sycamore; 1 p.m. Thursday at Sandwich Library, 925 S Main St. in Sandwich during a presentation; 1 p.m. Monday at Sycamore Library, 103 E. State St. in Sycamore during a presentation; 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at Barb Food Mart, 1515 S. Fourth St., Door 28 in DeKalb; 11:30 a.m. Sept. 24 at Genoa Library, 240 W. Main St. in Genoa during a presentation; 3 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at Kirkland Food Pantry,
510 W. South St. in Kirkland.
