Richard Graham, a resident of Heritage Woods, served in Korea in the mid-1950s. He said that while he wanted to serve his country, he was happy to come home when his tour ended, even though he wasn’t recognized for his service back then. He said that the country is now doing more to honor veterans.
“This is nice that [the motorcade participants] want to honor the servicemen,” Graham said. “The veterans did their service and protected the country. They should be honored.”
Heritage Woods administrator Alex Haughee said that the resident veterans had been looking forward to the ceremony all month, and that they enjoy being recognized.
“It’s a nice show of appreciation, just having [the motorcade] come out and honor them with their physical presence,” he said. “This shows that [the veterans] are not forgotten. It’s important for them to be recognized, no matter what age they are. They gave their young lives for this country.”
